THE 4-HOUR WORK WEEK: ESCAPE THE 9-5, LIVE ANYWHERE AND JOIN THE NEW RICH BY TIMOTHY FERRISS

BOOK REVIEWS BY BINOD

BINOD’S RATING: 6/10

Ferriss is a very weird guy and the book initially looked like the typically shallow, market-y, self help book. To be honest I skipped some boring parts related to setting up and running your business etc.

But I was surprised! There’s lot of insightful & practical stuff in it, like:

  1. Most of us think we should work until we are 60, then retire and live the good life. Of course by that time it’s too late. Ferriss points out how backwards that idea is, and throws up ideas on how to change your life to accommodate.

  2. Be a business owner - not a business runner. One gives you lots of free time - the other consumes your life

  3. Time is your most valuable asset. Ferriss gives a lot of good tips for time management - which aren't unique, but every time you read them they help you.

  4. The TM ones that I really liked and am trying to implement: a) only check email 3 times a day at set intervals b) outsource everything you can to 3rd parties (like a virtual concierge in India) and c) avoid meetings whenever possible

  5. Don't be afraid to reach out to important/famous people for advice. They are often more accessible than you think

  6. Avoid excessive information: too much info can overload you, so for example, avoid reading news on subjects that don't relate to what you do.

This book is unique, a radical escape plan for the bored and the bold. If nothing it’ll change the way you look at your life and career.
